What You Need For Tieing a Quilt
Once you have your quilt top layer of the quilt patterns created, you need to attach it to the back. When you opt to tie your quilt, you're only going to need two things: Thick quilting/embroidery thread, and a quilting needle.
Depending on your design, you can opt for a thread color that blends in, or a color that adds flair.
When tieing quilt patterns, you want to make sure you have a thick needle. Since you're using thicker thread, you need a thicker needle to get through the quilt top and other layers.

Placing The Knots
When you tie your quilt, you want the knots at regular intervals, ideally in the middle of individual squares of fabric. The point of tieing your quilt is not only to hold the whole thing together but also to hold down individual elements.
For a basic symmetrical quilt, it's a great idea to tie a knot at the center of each square, working from the center outwards. You can also tie knots at the intersection of the squares to accomplish the same thing, with a slightly different look.

- Cut the ends of your thread, so you have enough space to make a tie, and tie it!
- Repeat this all along your quilt until you're completed.
